Getting to Know You

Hi, I’m Lindsay Thurston, an interior stylist and teacher here to help you create a home you truly love. I am so excited that you took the time to visit and connect with me. I hope to give you some inspiration and confidence to tackle the home projects you dream about accomplishing.

I’ve done a lot of things for work in my life, but I’ve always had a passion for interior design. No matter what is going on in your world, having a home that makes you feel your best is a gift you give to yourself.

When I was young my mother was an interior designer and used to take me along on jobs to help rearrange the furniture in clients’ homes. It was like real world Tetris with way better results, and I was hooked. I learned so much from her and immersed myself in the world of design, reading every book I could get my hands on and rearranging the furniture in my bedroom a million times.

I spent a decade working in merchandising - designing retail spaces for a major apparel retailer - before going back to school to get my Master in Teaching. No matter what I’m doing I’ve always had a passion for learning and teaching. We all have so much to teach each other and I love being an active part of that process.

I’m a busy second-grade teacher by day, and when the pandemic hit, I found myself with a lot of extra time and nowhere to go. I have always needed a creative outlet and I started my YouTube channel, Lindsay Living, in July 2020 with an aim to share design tips and the process of redesigning our rental home.

In August 2020 my boyfriend Travis asked me to marry him. We bought a home of our own in April 2021, and now we’re in the process of redesigning it. We enjoy working on home projects and doting on our two golden retrievers, Harbor and Kelly Green.

I’m building my brand as an interior stylist - I truly love researching the history of interior design, searching out unique pieces, and applying what I’m learning as I reimagine a space. I have a lifelong passion for modern, yet historical spaces that tell the story of us. I want to help you curate and create a home YOU love, one video at a time.

 FAQs

  • When I was growing up my mother worked as an interior designer, designing custom homes in neighborhoods all around my hometown. She eventually opened a storefront with a business partner offering custom design services, custom furniture and unique home decor. Growing up alongside her many ventures I fell in love with design. I used to go on jobs with her and became known for space planning and furniture layouts - still a favorite task of mine. From there my interest only grew and I consumed tons of books and tackled my own design projects to sharpen my skills and find my own design style.

  • The quickest way to answer this question is to cite my favorite interior design style, French Modern. That said I am a huge believer in mixing interior design styles to find your own unique look. I am continually drawn to rooms with a rich set of historical details including original wood, moldings, and traditional details. I love mixing traditional architecture with modern decor and furnishings. My style is constantly evolving as I learn more.

  • My husband Travis and I have two golden retrievers who are the lights of our lives and make frequent appearances on my YouTube channel. Kelly Green was born in 2018 and is half American Golden, half English Cream, giving her a blond coat. Harbor was born in 2015, is full English Cream, giving her a thick, white, curly coat.

  • Yes! I have DIY designed every space I have ever lived in from childhood bedrooms I designed alongside my mother to every apartment, rental home, and house I’ve ever called home. We are currently renovating our 1952 ranch style home in Seattle, and have a laundry list of design ideas and projects in the works. Nothing makes me happier than getting my hands dirty, trying new things, and seeing my design dreams come to life. Worried about getting started on your own design plans? I’m hoping to inspire you to try something new in your own home.
